Kanga High School alumni has feted the school with gifts and donations in appreciation to the institution’s exemplary performance 2021 KCSE national exams.

Kanga Old Boys Association rewarded the school for managing to send 374 students to universities out of 409 candidates, with 24 of them scoring straight As.

The outstanding performance in the 2021 KCSE exam saw them beat top Nyanza schools like Maseno and Maranda in the history of the national examinations.

Through their vice chairman Milton Okunye, the association said it was a glorifying moment to have produced more than 20 students with straight As in the school’s history.

Apart from concentrating on the students who have excelled in national examinations, the alumni is also concerned about the infrastructural part of the school, and said it will ensure the environment is conducive for learning.

To achieve this, the association has in the past been constructing a storey dormitory, a project that is already in the first floor.

They are also working on a water project to ensure there is enough water running throughout the school’s taps.

Okunye  further said they were providing bursaries to support bright but needy students to ensure all the fees are paid for four years.

“One of the pillars of Koba [Kanga Old Boys Association] is the bursary scheme through which we support two students per class every year. We pay fees for the entire learning period, and they have not failed us,” he said.

During the reward ceremony, the association gifted the 2019, 2020 and 2021 top performers with a total of 20 laptops and 10 smartphones to assist them in their university studies.

The inclusion of the 2019 and 2020 cohorts was to allow the association to fete students who missed out during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kanga High School chief principal Reuben Kodiango said Koba's input has seen the school improve significantly in its academic performance.

“As a school, this is giving us a lot of motivation, especially to other students because as the previous students are celebrated, the current ones get motivated to work better,”  he said.

Kodiango, however, said it is not just a matter of celebrating the 'A' students only, but also it is through the good grades that the students will get marketable courses at the universities, which the school's main aim.
