Some Luo Nyanza leaders allied to Kenya Kwnza administration have described the bipartisan talks that will commence Monday as a waste of time.
They argued that the planned talks between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza leaders at Bomas in Nairobi will not yield fruits because it has become a habit of some leaders to dismiss IEBC after every election circle.
Lake Victoria Water Works Development Agency (LVWWDA) chairman Odoyo Owidi, KEMSA director Hesborn Omollo, former Awendo MP Jared K’Opiyo and former MP Nyakach MP Ochieng' Daima claimed that opposition leaders want to get into government through the backdoor.
The bipartisan talks are led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka (Azimio) and National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah (Kenya Kwanza).
Both camps have already differed on the agenda of the talks as Azimio demands the opening of election servers and lowering of the cost of living, issues Kenya Kwanza have opposed.
Owidi argued that Azimio leaders are bringing issues of the 2022 general election which had already been discussed and concluded by the Supreme Court.
“We’re past the last elections and if you were defeated you should wait for 2027. The bipartisan talks are a waste of time because election matters were concluded in the Supreme Court,” Owidi said.
The LVSWWDA chairman urged the Luo community to embrace the Kenya Kwanza government because it means well to them and will develop them as other Kenyans.
Speaking at the launch of constructing Omolo Mado Primary Borehole Water Project in Kasipul constituency, Owidi asked the residents to avoid engaging in anti-government on grounds that they lead to the destruction of properties.
“Winning an election is the only strategy for getting power but not anti-government protests. We have a government in place and there is no amount of protests that can topple it if not a waste of time and destruction of our own properties,” he added.
Omollo asked Azimio leaders to stop issuing intimidation and threats that they will resume demonstration should the talks not bear fruits.
Azimio leaders through Raila Odinga had issued an ultimatum that they will return to the fourth wave of protests should the talks fail to start.
The KEMSA director said the protests have led to the loss of lives and the destruction of properties.
He emphasized that state power cannot be taken from President William Ruto through protests.
“The constitution wants a peaceful protest and our people not involved in a lost battle. We have one government in Kenya headed by President Ruto and nobody should think of any other person," Omollo said.
+He told residents of Nyanza to work with the government to enable them to acquire development, adding that no community can develop without working with the government.
“I urge our people to work with the government," he added
K’Opiyo said issues being discussed at Bomas of Kenya can be solved in parliament.
“I see the bipartisan teams wasting time because there won't be a change of guard unless an election is done,” Kopiyo said.
Daima told Azimio leaders to stop creating enmity between the Luo community and the government.
He claimed that youths from the community are misused to cause mayhem which is against government orders.
“Let youths embrace the government of the day,” Daima said.
