I'm not part of a scheme to distract governor James Orengo from delivering his pledges to Siaya residents, Bondo MP Dr Gideon Ochanda has stated.

Ochanda who is serving his third term in the National Assembly distanced himself from a group of politicians from the county who are plotting to block Orengo from re-election in 2027.

The county has in recent weeks been gripped by the 2027 election talks.

Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has declared publicly that he will be the opposition within Orengo's administration

Early this week, Oduol stated at a fundraiser in Alego Usonga that he will team up with Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, former police spokesman Charles Owino, Dr Ochanda and Ugenya MP David Ochieng to ensure the governor is not reelected.

The DG also declared that he will oversight Orengo's administration moving forward arguing that the team they have assembled will identify one of them to face Orengo in 2027.

"We will agree to field one of us who will face Orengo and make sure he is floored," Oduol asserted.

He said they would weigh who amongst them, is more popular than the rest in the anti-Orengo's camp.

"If I emerge the most popular, then I expect Gumbo to back me. If he is the one who is picked then I will deploy every resource at my disposal to support him to be the governor. I will then wait to be picked, either as CS or PS by President William Ruto," he said.

Gumbo has unsuccessfully tried to become Siaya governor since 2017. Oduol also vied against Rasanga in 2013.

But in what appears as early cracks in the anti-Orengo camp, Ochanda who is amongst ODM MPs backing Ruto's administration said he was not part of the scheme to deny Orengo a second term.

Ochanda appealed to all elected leaders from the county to give the governor a chance to deliver on his pre-election pledges.

"I want to appeal to my colleagues to give the governor time to work. Let us not appear to intimidate him or distract him. He will say that we were the reason why he couldn't perform as expected," he said.

The MP said it is too early and premature to begin the discussions around the 2027 polls.

"Elections will come anyway. Whether we talk about it or not. However, we need to focus on how to uplift Siaya in terms of development. Siaya is still doing badly in regards to development," Ochanda said.

Oduol has publicly stated that he will work with the Kenya Kwanza government arguing that it is Ruto's UDA camp that saved his political career.

Having been impeached by the county assembly, the motion flopped at the senate where UDA senators voted against it.

"Ruto's team at the senate saved my neck which was on the chopping board. I have decided to work with them although I'm still in ODM," Oduol said.

Lately, the DG has been attending functions organised by Kenya Kwanza leaders from Luo Nyanza while skipping those graced by ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo is amongst the leaders said to be eying the governor's position. He is also amongst the ODM legislators who have vowed to work closely with President William Ruto's government.

The plot, it appears, is to have UDA-allied politicians from Siaya close ranks and cobble up a team that will face Orengo on the ballot in 2027.

This strategy is likely to be rolled out in all four Luo Nyanza counties.

In Siaya however, the governor seems to be unmoved by the early campaigns against his government and has decided to focus his attention on delivering his Nyalore Manifesto to Siaya residents.

While on Ramogi radio on Tuesday, Orengo said he won't respond to his detractors.

"I'm not interested in those distractions. My focus is to deliver services to the people of Siaya. All that noise you hear out there is none of my business," he said.

His administration has since launched a number of key projects in roads to bolster infrastructure development, water sector and agriculture to enhance food security.
