Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) in Homa Bay wants the police to expedite investigations into the death of their colleague.

The union chairman Jack Okoth called on the police in Rangwe to speed up the investigations and arrest those who speared to death teacher Benson Evans of Bakhita Girls Secondary School.

Unknown assailants attacked, slashed his neck before stabbing the teacher using a spear on Friday night in Komenya Sub-location, East Kochia Location.

Okoth said justice should prevail for the family of the slain teacher.

“The matter is with the police and what we want is speedy investigations. We want to know those who killed the teacher Benson and the motive for his murder,” Okoth said.

The assailants also disappeared with the teacher’s motorbike.

It is reported that the murderers waylaid the teacher when he left the school for Rodi Kopany trading centre where had rented a house.

According to the Assistant Chief of Komenya Sub-location Lilian Ombayi, the teacher left school on Friday evening and visited his male colleague who lives near the school.

He stayed with his friend until sometime in the night before he kicked off his journey to Rodi Kopany.

He rode the motorbike some meters away before he met the suspected gangsters who attacked him with a spear.

The spear stuck in his head after being stabbed.

“They stabbed him from the back of his head towards the face. The metallic part of the spear got lodged in his head,” Ombayi said.

The teacher ululated before some residents rushed to his rescue.

The teacher was rushed to a local hospital before he was referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral in Kisumu where he died on arrival early Saturday.

“He bled profusely due to severe injuries he sustained in the incident which required specialised medical care. Unfortunately, he died before being attended to,” the administrator said.

On Sunday, Rangwe Sub-county Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said they had launched investigations into the incident.

She asked residents for more information about the incident to report to enable them to arrest the assailants.

“We’re already pursuing crucial leads to help us get people who killed the teacher. Let residents with more information to report to address the matter urgently,” Chebet said.

Police assured the public of taking legal action against the assailants.

The body was taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.

“We’re doing everything possible to arrest and arraign the suspects,” she said.
