Streets in Kisii town were filled with hundreds of Gen Z youth loudly calling for the rejection of the controversial Finance Bill.

At Mashauri, traders removed their ware in haste for fear of looting.

In the early hours the protesters walked to Kisii National Polytechnic gate and sang dirges and political slogans targeting the Kenya Kwanza government.

The protests were largely peaceful with leaders reprimanding those who tried to blockade roads with stones.

Outside the Kisii Country Commissioner's office gate, the youth told police in riot gear manning the gate to join them in the protests.

"You should join us, we are also fighting for you," a female youth confronted an armed officer.

Outside the Central Bank, the youth also told the GSU officers manning the installation that their welfare would be improved should the government drop the bill.
