Six women MPs have drummed up support for President William Ruto's broad-based government saying it will heal the country from challenges raised by the Gen Z.
The women representatives who spoke in Uasin Gishu urged Kenyans to support Ruto's development agenda through the broad-based government that has roped in the opposition.
They said they would traverse the country as a team to preach unity and peace among Kenyans.
Led by Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Boss Sholei who also serves as the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, the leaders distributed bursaries worth Sh7 million from the affirmative action fund. Another Sh29 million was allocated for value-addition projects.
MPs present included Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Beatrice Kemei (Kericho), Pauline Lenguris (Samburu), Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga), Naomi Waqo (Marsabit) and Cynthia Muge (Nandi).
Gitau said the country was headed in the right direction under the broad-based government.
“As women leaders we are united in supporting President Ruto because we know he means well for this country,” Gitau said.
She tipped Ruto to streamline the education sector, including at the university level through the new funding model.
Shollei said in a few years education and healthcare would be free because of the measures being implemented by the President, adding that the broad-based government was for all Kenyans and those opposing such unity had no place in the country.
She said the President had taken a noble step by involving opposition leaders because they equally represent the voters.
Shollei said she was confident President Ruto would transform the country by creating more jobs and alleviating poverty.
She said her empowerment programmes in Uasin Gishu would focus on uplifting the lives of youth and women who form a big portion of the population.
“We recognise the role played by youth in the society and that is why many of the projects we are supporting in Uasin Gishu are those they have initiated,” Shollei said.
