A school in Siaya county has resolved to offer its 2024 candidates whose results were reportedly cancelled by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) an opportunity to rejoin the institution and sit the examinations in July this year.

According to the Principal of Nyamninia Secondary School in Gem, Yala subcounty, Thomas Otieno Obura, the school management has unanimously resolved to offer the 11 candidates whose results were cancelled a second chance.

The move is in accordance with the new government policy that allows such students to re-sit the examinations.

Addressing the media in his office on Thursday, January 16, 2025, Obura said the 11 candidates had their mathematics results cancelled hence affecting the entire results since the subject was a compulsory examinable subject.

“We have sat as a board and senior management and resolved to recall the 11 so that they can repeat and hopefully sit for the KCSE in July this year,” the principal.

“I thank the government for this new arrangement.”

He said out of the 181 students that the school presented, 170 received their results, with the best three students scoring grade B plus while 13 scored B plain.

Obura said a total of 66 students scored grade C plus and above which guarantees them direct entry to the public universities.

The principal said the school was committed to maintaining the good results it has been posting over the years despite what he termed as a hiccup last year.

He lauded the parents and the students for remaining calm despite the challenges.

A member of the school’s parents’ association, Joab Ochieng’ Okinda lauded the students for their positive attitude towards studies that saw the institution post good results.

Candidates who failed to sit their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination for reasons beyond their control will now have another chance to do so in July.

This is after KNEC introduced a mid-year series to cover students who might have missed the exam or those who wish to retake the exam.

Education CS Julius Ogamba made the announcement while releasing the 2024 KCSE results at KNEC headquarters.
