First Lady of Kisumu County Dorothy Nyong’o has highlighted the growing need for accessible cancer care and early detection, particularly in underserved areas of the country.

Nyong’o, who is also the Managing Trustee of the Africa Cancer Foundation, also recognised the importance of integrating cancer screening and education into communities.

Speaking during a visit at RFH Healthcare’s modern cancer care centre, Nyong’o underscored that, with the support of healthcare professionals, medical students, and local leaders, the impact of the Cancer Centre can extend far beyond its walls.

"In line with our vision of a cancer-free Africa, this cancer centre is a significant step forward in the fight against cancer. The technology here will make a real difference in the lives of many people who have struggled to get the care they need," she said.

The center is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including PET CT, SPECT CT, Lutetium therapy, Gamma Knife, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, providing patients with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment options under one roof.

"I look forward to seeing more initiatives that involve our healthcare workers and the youth, especially those studying medicine, to actively participate in awareness campaigns and screening programs across the country," she added.

RFH Healthcare unveiled modern PET-CT and SPECT-CT scanners in December last year, promising to transform cancer diagnosis and treatment in the country.

Andre Lourens, a Molecular Imaging Application specialist from GE Healthcare Africa, travelled from South African to oversee the setup of the advanced imaging systems and provide specialised staff training.

Maxwell Okoth, Group Managing Director at RFH, reaffirmed the hospital's dedication to advancing healthcare.

“RFH remains committed to setting new benchmarks in medical technology and patient care. These investments reflect our vision of providing world-class services locally, ensuring that Kenyans and East Africans no longer need to leave the region for critical diagnostics and treatments.”
