Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has defended the newly launched People's Prosperity Party (PPP) as a national movement.
Owalo said the party's broad-based support demonstrates that it is not a regional political outfit as he steps up preparations for his 2027 presidential bid.
Owalo said the party's unveiling last week brought together leaders, professionals, youth, religious figures and sports personalities from across the country, reflecting its national outlook.
The launch attracted leaders from Kilifi, Kajiado, West Pokot, Busia, Migori, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Nairobi, Turkana, Taita Taveta, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Trans Nzoia.
Religious leaders in attendance included Nomiya Church Cardinal Archbishop Moses Okech, Sheikh Ibrahim Hussein and Rev Enos Kazende. The event also brought together professionals, women leaders, youth representatives, persons living with disabilities and aspiring politicians from different parts of the country.
Among the professionals present were former Principal Secretary Dr Hadijah Kasochon, former Kenyan Ambassador to the United States Rateng Oginga Ogego, Professional Association of Nyanza Women official Dr Veronica Manduku and lawyer Gabriel Otiende.
Former students from institutions attended by Owalo, including Maseno School, St Mary's School Yala, Kenyatta University and the University of Nairobi, also attended the launch.
The event also attracted prominent figures from the sporting fraternity, including veteran football coach Robert Matano, former Kenya Basketball Federation president Maurice Aluanga and several former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards players.
Organisers said the participation of sports personalities highlighted the ability of sport to unite Kenyans across political and ethnic divides.
Owalo said the party's slogan, Ustawi kwa Wote (Prosperity for All), reflects its commitment to ensuring every Kenyan has access to opportunities regardless of background, region or social status.
"Our vision is to build a Kenya where economic growth is inclusive, opportunities are accessible to all and every citizen is empowered to realise their full potential. This is the Kenya I want my children and yours to inherit," he said.
He said a PPP government would prioritise unlocking enterprise, rewarding hard work, mobilising local capital and advancing social justice, equity and dignity through deliberate public policies.
According to Owalo, the agenda forms part of what he has dubbed the Third Liberation Agenda, which seeks to achieve Kenya's economic emancipation and lay the foundation for what he describes as the country's Third Republic.
The agenda is anchored on nine priorities, including reducing taxes, lowering public debt, fighting corruption, providing free primary and secondary education, offering free healthcare in public hospitals, expanding the digital and creative economy, positioning Kenya as a sporting powerhouse, ensuring equitable distribution of national resources and strengthening constitutionalism and the rule of law.
As the 2027 General Election draws closer, Owalo is positioning the People's Prosperity Party as a national, issue-driven movement built around economic transformation, governance reforms and national unity.
