A section of Azimio youth supporters in Lodwar, Turkana, vowed to start a peaceful demonstration on Thursday over the high cost of living.
The youths led by self-declared President for the community Joseph Egelan said they will hold a peaceful demonstration in Lodwar town to call the government to address the high cost of living.
He said Turkana is a stronghold of Azimio La Umoja and therefore on Thursday they will protest in Lodwar town to support ODM Leader Raila Odinga who’s leading the mass action.
“On Thursday, we as the Azimio Youth supporters will hold a peaceful demonstration in Lodwar to call the Kenya Kwanza government to address the high cost of living. We urge the police to provide security during the demonstration.”
“I want to tell ODM leader Raila that we have been threatened not to hold a peaceful demonstration. Whenever we want to protest we are attacked by goons who force us to call off the protest. We are not going to accept that again, our constitution is very clear we have to protest for our rights,” he said.
Bernard Kerio, said they are also in support of the demonstration announced by Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda over banditry attacks.
He said they will join Isiolo, Baringo and Samburu at the State House to demand answers why it has taken long for the government to flush out bandits in North Rift.
Lesuuda said she will lead peaceful demonstrations to the State House and the office of interior CS Kithure Kindiki if banditry activities continue.
Lesuuda gave the government three days ultimatum to address banditry issues or lead a protest.
Azimio Leader Raila has for a long time enjoyed the support of Turkana who voted for him to beat William Ruto.
He garnered 96,117 votes in Turkana County, beating William Ruto who got 46,696 votes
