Police probe death of KCSE candidate in Lodwar

Police in Lodwar are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate.

The candidate was found unresponsive at Talent Secondary School on the night of November 19, 2024.

According to the police report, Kephas Achiro, a trauma and emergency nurse at Lodwar County Referral Hospital reported receiving a distress call from the school administration at 10:45 pm.

Upon arriving at the scene with an ambulance, medical personnel found the student identified as John Ekalale Ewoyarot, foaming from the nose and being assisted by fellow students.

The student was pronounced dead upon medical checks.

“The scene was visited and necessary action was taken, no suicide note was found,” the police said.

The body was moved to Lodwar County and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy report.

The police are also probing three separate cases of suicide reported in Baringo, Nyamira and Homa Bay counties.

In the second incident, the lifeless body of a 50-year-old man identified as Joseph Gitau Ngugi was discovered near his homestead in Baringo County.

Ngambo Sublocation Assistant Chief Lydia Lentele reported the incident at 8 pm on November 19, 2024.

His body was found lying by the roadside without any visible injuries except for white foam oozing from his mouth.

Forensics teams processed the scene and the body was moved to the Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Elsewhere in Homa Bay, a man, 43, died by suspected suicide after he was found hanging with a manila rope tied around his neck from a tree outside his house.

Police officers identified the man as Agutu Okello who was a resident of Ogandi village.

The body was discovered by the deceased’s wife Caroline Akinyi Agutu at 4 am when she went to answer a call of nature.

Homa Bay Police Station officers visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

In Nyamira county, the body of a 31-year-old man identified as Erick Orina Ojwang was discovered in a suspected suicide at his home in Kebirigo Sublocation.

The area assistant chief Jackline Obwari reported the incident at 9 am.

Police arrived at the scene and found Ojwang's body hanging from the roof truss of his sitting room with a sisal rope around his neck.

The authorities recovered a suicide note that was on top of the table.

The body which showed no physical injuries, was transferred to Ibara Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
