Three people commit suicide in separate incidents

Three people have died by suicide in Kiambu, West Pokot and Nyeri counties. 

In Kiambu, a man died by suicide in Gatundu South on Sunday.

David Nganga Wacuka, aged 22, died by hanging himself with a sisal rope.

The body was found hanging from roof rafters inside his rental house in Gatundu Township.

According to the police reports, the deceased did not leave any note behind, and his body had no visible injuries.

The police processed and documented the scene.

In Sigor West Pokot County, a man died by suicide in the Asal sublocation on Saturday.

Simon Kapelisiwa, aged 28 years old, died by hanging himself with a sisal rope.

His body was found hanging from the roof rafters inside his bedroom.

Police officers confirmed the incident and reported that there was no suicide note left behind.

The scene was processed and documented.

His body was moved to Kapenguria hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The case is under investigation.

In another incident in Nyeri County, a man died by suicide in Kieni East on November 16, 2024.

Muchai Gitahi aged 69 years old, a resident of Kimuri market, died by hanging himself with a wire cable.

His body was also found hanging from the root rafters in his shop.

According to the police reports, a handwritten suicide note was found at the scene.

The scene was processed and the body of the deceased was moved to Nyeri P.G.H mortuary for postmortem examination. The case is under investigation.

World Health Organization (WHO) affirms that 800,000 people take their own lives annually and many more people attempt suicide.

Suicide has adverse effects on families, communities and the entire country. It has lifelong effects on the people left behind. Suicide remains the fourth leading cause of death globally.

Suicide in Kenya is a fundamental mental health problem and by extension, a major public health and social problem.

Kenya faces a significant challenge, with increased suicide rates. The National Police Service (NPS) has been hardest hit.

Those experiencing suicidal thoughts are asked to seek the support of therapists and share the burden with their close associates.
