The Communication Workers Union of Kenya (COWU) Kericho branch has threatened to call a strike over four-month salary arrears.

The more than 30 workers complained of failure by the management of the Postal Corporation of Kenya to pay their salaries for four months.

Speaking to the press on behalf of postal corporation workers, COWU Kericho branch secretary Gilbert Rop expressed frustrations.

“We are deeply concerned by the persistent delay in the disbursement of salaries to our members which is a clear violation of their basic rights,” he said.

“Timely payment of wages is not only a legal obligation but also a fundamental aspect of the trust and respect that should exist between the employer and their workforce.”

He said that the delay in payment of their salaries had financially strained the employees and struggled to meet financial obligations such as rent, school fees and bills leading to tension with landlords and other creditors.

Rop further said that the salary delays impacted negatively on the productivity of the workers who are committed to undertake their duties in a responsible working environment.

Rop urged the Postal Corporation of Kenya to take immediate action to rectify the situation and ensure salaries are paid promptly failure to which they will resort to down their tools.

“We call on the management of Posta Kenya to act swiftly and responsibly to resolve this matter and ensure that all outstanding salaries for four months are paid in full without further delay,” Rop said.
