The year 2021 is coming to an end and as has been witnessed for years, many Kenyans travel to their respective rural homes for the festive season.

Machakos Bus Terminus is known to a busy place, with matatus and buses ferrying customers to different destinations, hawkers selling their products and a lot more.

However, unlike previous years, the famous bus terminus was not a hive of activity on Friday, days to Christmas.

This, as many city dwellers face tough economic times amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Habil Ochieng, a stage attendant, attested to poor business, with fare prices remaining the same despite high fuel prices.

"We hope things will get better soon as we anticipate mass travel during this festive season," he said.
