President William Ruto on Thursday took a tour of the Science Museum in Addis Ababa, with Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The Museum hosts science and technology exhibitions, and start-ups.
Ruto said Africa has an obligation to consciously place science at the centre of its planning.
"It must increase funding for research and work with scientists to generate fresh data and ideas that can guide policy interventions to drive economic growth," he said.
The President had gone to Ethiopia's capital earlier in the day, where he presided over the launch of Safaricom.
"Kenya is keen on exploring new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of the people," Ruto said on Safaricom's venture in Ethiopia.
Safaricom announced that it will start commercial service in Ethiopia in July.
Safaricom Ethiopia’s 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services are now available in 11 cities.
The company plans to launch services in a total of 25 cities by April 2023 to meet the 25 per cent population coverage obligation under its licence.
