In a unique display of unity between the legal and political realms, politicians who are also lawyers joined forces with the Law Society of Kenya in a peaceful street protest against President William Ruto's remarks concerning the Judiciary.

The protest which took place on Friday was also characterized by a rare tranquillity often not seen in such demonstrations and proceeded without any interruptions from law enforcement.

In a  turn of events, a police car provided an escort for the protestors, leading them from the Supreme Court along City Hall Way to Harambee Avenue and Parliament Road.

Some of the politicians spotted in the protests include Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

He obtained a bachelor's degree in law (Upper Second Class Honours) from the University of Nairobi in 1976 and a Masters of Law.

The former governor also went to the University of London and George Washington University. He graduated from Harvard University in June 1984.

At the UoN, he  served as the Associate Professor (1977-2002), Dean of the Faculty of Law, a senior lecturer, and chairman of the Department of Private Law

Former  Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni also joined the lawyers in protests.

Before joining politics the former Ndaragwa MP ran Ngayu and Associates, a Nairobi-based valuation firm.

He holds a degree in Lands Economics and a master's in Property Management from the University of Nairobi. He also has a Law degree from the University of Nairobi.

Former Cabinet Secretary for Defence Eugene Wamalwa also attended the anti-Ruto protests by lawyers.

After he completed his secondary education at Gendia High School in Homa Bay, he joined the University of Nairobi, where he undertook a Bachelor's degree in Law and thereafter obtained a Diploma at the Kabarak University

Eugene was admitted to the bar in 1995 and thereafter joined the private legal practice.

One of his highlights as a practicing lawyer was representing Uganda President Yoweri Museveni in th 2001presidential election petition against opposition leader Kizza Besigye.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma also joined the lawyers in the demos.

After completing high school at  St. Joseph’s High School in Rapogi, from 1996 to 2000, he joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).

Between 2000 and 2001 attended the Kenya School of Law for a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies. In 2006, he joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Master of Laws (LL.M).

Early this month President William Ruto accused the judiciary of teaming up with cartels to stall his legacy projects.

"I want to announce here that a few people with vested interests who are beneficiaries of corruption in NHIF are now ganging up with corrupt judicial officers to stall reforms so that fake hospital claims will continue," he said during burial in Nyandarua.

The utterances made on January 2, have elicited reactions from several associations allied with law practitioners.

As a result, invited members of the public to join members of the legal community in calling out President Ruto for his utterances, which they insist amount to an attack on the independence of the third arm of government.

The peaceful protest and march started from the Supreme Court Grounds along City Hall Way in Nairobi's Central Business Districting, proceeding along Parliament Road to the Office of the President.

Holding banners condemning the President's statements and supporting their freedom, they advocate for the importance of an impartial judiciary in upholding democratic principles.

Wiper leader and Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka was also in attendance.

He is the Founding Partner and Legal Consultant of the firm.

Kalozo is an advocate of over 35 years standing who has distinguished himself as an International Law practitioner specialising in conflict management and resolution.

The Wiper leader graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Nairobi in 1977.

He continued further studies at the Kenya School of Law in 1978 where he was awarded a postgraduate diploma in Law.
