Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday hosted
MCAs from Kisii County at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri county.
The meeting with the ward reps from Kisii came just hours after Gachagua hosted yet another group of MCAs from Murang’a county.
“One more time today at my Wamunyoro residence, the people's grassroots representatives from Kisii County called on me,” the former DP said.
The MCAs from Kisii included Michael Motume (Masige East Ward), Christopher Onsaga (Nyamasibi Ward), Naftal Onkoba (Nyacheki Ward), Nyagaka Onchong'a (Sensi Ward), Brendah Kiteya (nominated), Ruth Nyagechang'a (nominated), and Karen Magara (nominated).
Gachagua said Kenya’s hope and dream of the future as
envisioned by forefathers must be re-gathered and re-focused in a truthful
voice of the common mwananchi.
“The elected and nominated members of the County Assembly of Kisii, I have heard you, and I have heard the voice of the great people of Kisii county on matters of economy, social, and political future. Kenyans deserve to be listened to and deserve value for their taxes,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Gachagua was with ward reps from Murang’a as he moved to consolidate the Mt Kenya region.
On Tuesday, Nakuru County Assembly MCAs also visited him at his Wamunyoro residence.
Gachagua's latest meetings with MCAs are seen as part of his elaborate strategy to ring-fence his Mt Kenya from rival camps ahead of the 2027 polls.
The former DP is said to have lined up more meetings with MCAs
from across the 10 Mt Kenya counties in a bid to lock the region ahead of the
2027 elections.
He has also been meeting a section of MPs from the region.
After the gathering with Nakuru MCAs, Gachagua said the meeting is part of his continued engagement to listen to the people “as they are the ultimate owners of the power as espoused by our Constitution.”
“They appraised me on the socioeconomic matters of the county but more importantly on what Wanjiku is keen on being given priority,” Gachagua said.
