Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo marked a significant milestone on Thursday with the launch of the Sh70 million county bursary for the Financial Year 2023-2024.
The event showcased the governor's commitment to education, as he emphasized the distribution of funds to students across secondary schools, colleges, and universities within the county.
During the launch, Governor Guyo unveiled his pledge to double the bursary allocation from the previous year, setting the stage for a notable increase to Sh100 million in the upcoming financial year.
This ambitious commitment underscores the administration's dedication to supporting the educational pursuits of the local youth.
In a visionary move, Governor Guyo also acknowledged the vital role of technical skills in shaping the future workforce.
He revealed plans for additional infrastructure development and the establishment of a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center in Kinna ward. The initiative aims to equip more youths with practical skills, diverting them from potential involvement in political unrest.
Governor Guyo, in his address, expressed determination to ensure that the county's youth actively engage in TVETs, fostering a culture of skill development and reducing their susceptibility to manipulation for political purposes.
"My administration will ensure that more youths enroll in TVETs colleges and get skills instead of being used by politicians to cause chaos," Guyo added.
The launch not only marked a substantial investment in education but also outlined a comprehensive strategy to empower the younger generation for a more promising future.
Members of the Isiolo County Assembly, led by Assembly Speaker Mohammed Roba Qoto, attended the ceremony.
The speaker pledged close cooperation between the assembly and the executive to secure an increment in bursary allocation in the coming years.
Also in attendance were Chief officers and CEC, led by County Secretary Dade Boru, who commended the Education department, led by CECm Ileen Kajuju and the Chief Officer for Education & Early Childhood Development Salad Diba Rogicha for ensuring the success of the bursary allocation process.
