President William Ruto on Monday visited residents who were affected by floods in Mathare, Nairobi county.
The President interacted with them and visited the homes as he assessed the flood situation.
On his way back, the President saw Nancy, a young girl and a pupil at a local school selling fruits by the roadside.
State House Digital Secretary Dennis Itumbi said the President asked his driver to stop the motorcade and promote Nancy's business.
"Nancy told the President she was helping her mum who had gone out to run some errand. She said she was helping her as she waited for schools to resume," Itumbi said in a statement on Facebook.
According to him, the President bought the bananas and sugarcane which were later distributed to children gathered around.
Ruto assured Nancy that schools would re-open soon.
He also said that classes which were destroyed by the heavy rains and floods would be repaired and reconstructed.
