Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi follows proceedings during the pre-trial hearing of his impeachment by the National Assembly select committee at County Hall on May 7, 2024.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was on Tuesday present as the National Assembly select committee tasked with probing his impeachment set the ground rules for the hearing.

MPs voted last week to impeach the Agriculture CS.

The pre-trial hearing held at the Mini Chamber, County Hall, from 5pm was attended by all concerned parties.

These include the CS and his legal team and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, the sponsor of the impeachment motion, and his team.

The hearing will start on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 9am.

Wamboka alleges in his impeachment motion that Linturi is liable of gross violation of the Constitution for failing to undertake public participation before proceeding with procuring and distributing subsidised fertiliser.

During the pre-trial session, CS Linturi appeared to be in deep thought as he followed the proceedings.

He would occassionally be seen alternating between scratching his jawline, touching his head and adjusting his spectacles.

The 11-member select committee is chaired by Marsabit Woman Representative Naomi Waqo.

After the pre-trial, the team will embark on marathon hearings where witnesses will be called to testify.

Linturi will also be accorded an opportunity to defend himself.

The committee is required to table the report on its findings in Parliament on May 13.
