Books left out to dry after they were affected by floods at Mathare North Primary School when schools reopened on May 13, 2024.

Learners and teachers from Mathare North Primary School on Monday had a busy day cleaning up the institution which was affected by floods on April 24.

Mathare North Primary School headteacher  Boniface Matindi said the water rose to one and a half metres in the classrooms and offices in the institution.

Matindi said the learners and teachers were helping each other clean the school after the floods wreaked havoc on the school.

The floods destroyed books which were in the cupboards.

"The water also destroyed certificates of learners from 1989 to 2022 which the ministry of education said it will avail new copies from KNEC," the headteacher said.

The learners had placed the books out in the open air to dry as well as examination papers.

Some desks and chairs were also placed out to dry.
