have arrived in Nyeri for Governor Nderitu Gachagua's burial.

Gachagua died

Also present were Deputy President William Ruto and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

Several MPs, senators and MCA have also joined friends and relatives for the funeral ceremony at the late Governor's home in Mathira.

Business in the county has come to a standstill amid final preparations for the burial of a leader eulogised as exemplary.

The cortege left Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi at 7am and arrived in Mathira at about 10pm.

Mourners are viewing the body ahead of the burial.

Gachagua was born on July 29, 1953. He

started his career as a quantity surveyor in 1977 after graduating from the University of Nairobi.

He served as a Provincial Quantity Surveyor for the Ministry of Public Works between 1982 to 1983.

Gachagua made his political debut in 2003 when he successfully contested the Mathira Constituency seat.

He was elected as the first Governor for Nyeri County with the inception of the devolved system of government in 2013

But last year,

MCAs voted to impeach the Governor for alleged misappropriation of funds.
