The Affordable Housing Project in Isiolo County will cost Sh492 million and is projected to be complete by April 2025.

The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development said the project in Isiolo Township Ward, Isiolo North Constituency, comprises 200 housing units across eight blocks.

A statement from the ministry said the Isiolo AHP is designed as a comprehensive residential development that integrates modern housing solutions with cultural sensitivity.

It added that the project delivers a diverse mix of housing options carefully planned to meet local architectural preferences and community needs.

“The development comprises 60 studio apartments, 20 one-bedroom units, 80 two-bedroom units, and 40 three-bedroom units, creating an inclusive living environment for residents with varying needs,” the ministry said.

It added that the project incorporates essential infrastructure and amenities, which include secured boundary walls, adequate water storage facilities, a dedicated borehole, and a biodigester system.

“The Isiolo AHP represents a significant investment in the region's economic infrastructure, with substantial benefits for the local community. The project is expected to inject over Sh250 million into the local economy through various channels,” the ministry noted.

It said the construction phase has created employment for approximately 250 workers, including skilled professionals such as electricians and plumbers as well as general construction laborers.

“This workforce comprises 80 per cent local residents, demonstrating the project's commitment to community empowerment. The economic impact extends beyond direct employment, benefiting local businesses including hardware stores, equipment rental services, and food vendors.”

The ministry further said the project's design prioritises family-friendly features, including safe play areas for children and green spaces for community interaction.

It said the integration of accessibility features ensures the development is inclusive for all residents.

“The project's strong focus on local content has created opportunities for skills development and economic empowerment within the community. The high percentage of local labour participation demonstrates the project's role in building local capacity and creating sustainable employment opportunities,” the ministry added.

It noted that the developer is implementing a 24-hour construction schedule and weekend work to recover time lost due to flooding.
