Veteran radio host Edward Kwach has passed away at the age of 44 while undergoing treatment for meningitis.
Until his death, Kwach worked as a radio host at Standard Media Group's Spice FM.
According to the family, Kwach died following a short illness on Monday, April 28, 2025.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, that occurred last night, 28th April 2025, while receiving treatment for meningitis,” reads the family’s statement.
Earlier this month, Kwach was admitted to Coptic Hospital in critical condition.
Well-wishers were urged to donate blood to help stabilise the radio personality’s condition.
Kwach’s death has yet again left the media industry in mourning having lost a couple of journalists recently.
His family thanked Kenyans for their support when he needed it most.
“His voice became a familiar and trusted companion to many across the country, who tuned in not just for the music but for the warmth and humor he brought to his broadcasts,” the family said.
"The support we have received from everyone during Carey's illness has been overwhelming. We deeply appreciate the generosity of those who donated blood, visited, and held him in their thoughts and prayers,” it added.
The family said that funeral arrangements and the memorial
will be communicated in due course.
