Emmanuel Wanyonyi is the new champion record holder.

Wanyonyi set a new championship record of 1:43.76 in the men's 800m after winning gold at the ongoing World U20 Championships at Kasarani, Nairobi.

Kenya's Noah Kibet secured bronze while the silver medal went to Algeria.

Meanwhile, Purity Chepkirui won gold for Kenya in women's 1500m at Kasarani. Ethiopian Welteji took silver as Winnie Jemutai bagged bronze.

Wanyonyi's and Chepkirui's win gave Kenya iths sixth and seventh gold medals.

At the 3000m steeplechase, Kenya's Amos Serem took gold while Ethiopian Takele got silver as Simon Koech settled for bronze.

The Championship which began on Wednesday came to an end on Sunday with Kenya leading.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta who opened the games expressed hope that this year’s U20 championship will lay the foundation for more young athletes to grow their talents and achieve their sporting aspirations.
