Two people were seriously wounded by the panga-wielding youth gang at Kona ya Zamani area in Likoni on Thursday evening.
The two, Alex Kawere, 22 and Nyundo Mandale, 35, were rushed to Likoni subcounty hospital with deep cuts on their heads.
The 8.30pm incident happened hours after a security briefing at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Park on the criminal youth gang attacks in Mombasa.
On Thursday afternoon, Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna and Coast Regional coordinator John Elungata vowed to ensure security is beefed up in the region.
The national government declared that it will not relent on security at the Coast.
Likoni subcounty police boss Joseph Karanja said they have since launched a man-hunt for the youth, who carry out the attacks on innocent Kenyans.
He said no arrest has since been made, but they are in hot pursuit of the gang leader.
“We have crucial information that will lead us to arresting the suspects, one of the suspects was recently released from jail, we are pursuing him together with his accomplices,” Karanja said.
Two weeks ago, the panga-wielding gang terrorised residents in Harambee, Misufini and Jamvi la Wageni areas leaving at least nine people with serious injuries.
During the media briefing Elungata said they have so far arrested 14 people in connection with the Likoni attack, two weeks ago.
Elungata said some juvenile gangs, which were terrorising residents in parts of Kisauni and Nyali, have since shifted base to Likoni.
“We have been doing routine operations in Likoni and have so far arrested 14 youths. Some have been arraigned in court, others are still under interrogation,” Elungata said.
On Tuesday, police dramatically arrested two suspected terrorist at the Likoni crossing channel.
The two, who were found with guns, pangas and explosive-making materials, were arrested in the glare of the camera, in what critics said looked like a scripted movie scene.
Elungata said the incident was not a joke nor was it a PR stunt.
“It is disheartening to see that people are criticising efforts made by our brave officers to ensure that the country remains peaceful,” Elungata said.
He further rubbished claims that the government wants to use insecurity incidents to push the 2022 general election forward.
"That is not true," Elungata said.
He said despite the criticism, they will continue with the same trajectory to ensure that the entire region remains peaceful and secure.
