Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has warned politicians of escalating Covid-19 deaths in Kenya saying the issue has become frustrating for the Ministry of Health.
"It is getting a point to where you are frustrating us. We have no bed capacity, isolation facilities are full and you are still causing crowds everywhere," he said.
Speaking at Afya House on Monday, Kagwe said Kenyans cannot continue with the politicians' behaviour anymore.
"We cannot continue to gather crowds. It’s obvious these campaigns are killing people. We saw this in Kiambaa, Kiambu counties. It is obvious. What is the political cost if we will be burying many people? We urge our political class not to be the cause of the problem," an angry Kagwe said.
As of August 29, Kenya had recorded 4,710 deaths resulting from Covid-19.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had banned physical and in-person public gatherings and meetings, including political rallies and campaign meetings for impending by-elections.
But politicians have been defying this with most if not all continuing to hold meetings and rallies.
Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, are among the politicians who have recently been seen contravening the government’s guidelines.
Kagwe further said vaccinations that are not properly administered will lead to unnecessary side effects that could potentially result in deaths.
"Any facility that will not account for doses issued will not be issued with any more vaccine doses and will be delisted," he said.
