President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday broke ground for the construction of the Kenya National Research and Referral Hospital.
The Level Six referral hospital will have a bed capacity of 700 and will offer specialised health services to the military, security personnel and the general public.
The hospital will be located at the Kenya Defence Forces Army Barracks in Kabete.
"When complete, the Level Six hospital will offer specialized health services to the military, other security formations, and the public as part of Government efforts to achieve the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pillar of the Big 4 Agenda," Uhuru said.
The Head of State who presided over the ceremony was received at the event by a host of cabinet secretaries including Monica Juma (Defence), Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Mutahi Kagwe (Health) and Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi.
Also present at the groundbreaking ceremony was Attorney General Paul Kihara, and Nairobi Metropolitan Service director-general Mohamed Badi among other senior government officials.
