Deputy President William Ruto has said the idea of amending the constitution is invalid for now since Kenyans want development.
He said the need to have employment opportunities for the youth, empowerment for women and economic growth is the approach that will be a priority if his statehouse bid becomes successful.
The DP addressed residents at Chepilat, Kijauri and Keroka Markets where he empowered traders and Bodaboda riders during his two-day visit in Nyamira County on Monday.
He said they had good plans for Kenyans until when the 'reggae' came in and dismantled everything, which he promised to rectify next year when he becomes President.
"We will not allow a section of intruders who came to government and initiated the 'reggae' which was eventually stopped by God since Kenyans were not for the idea," the DP said.
He noted that the bottom-up economic model is the way to go so that employment opportunities can be availed for desperate youths who are now suffering in the country.
"As from next year, we will have Sh100 billion set aside for ensuring the Kenyan youths get job opportunities in the country. Our youths have been desperately singing reggae which has not helped them, we want to ensure small scale traders get uplifted, empowered for their good and that of our country, " he added.
He said the priority, for now, is changing the lives of Kenyans not amending the constitution for the advantage of a few leaders.
"They want to amend the constitution and add more powers to the President. Let them wait, the time we have now is to add powers to Kenyans through uplifting lives of millions of Kenyans and that is what we will do in our bottom-up approach model," the DP said.
Ruto allies said they will not allow some state influencers to determine who will be the President come next year.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE
They said Kenyans should be given the opportunity to elect their preferred leader without any pressure.
Sotik MP Dominic Koskei said there is a need for Kenyans to be allowed to choose their President freely since they are the determinants of the country's leadership.
"We want to call upon the people who are in government not to interfere or coerce Kenyans on who should be the President next year," Koskei said.
The leaders spoke when they joined the DP at Chepilat Market when he addressed a roadside gathering, where the DP empowered bodaboda riders, traders and church choirs.
The leaders who joined DP include, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose,Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati among other leaders.
West Mugirango legislator Vincent Kemosi said there is every need to have Kenyans have the freedom of electing the leaders of their choice without having anyone to determine for them.
"We have some people depend on the Presidency thinking they will use the opportunity to lure Kenyans into voting for them in the next year's General elections. We want to tell them Kenyans are not fools who cannot determine who to lead them, " Kemosi said.
The DP will later hand over a bus to Riyabe Secondary school in Kitutu Masaba Constituency before he addresses a roadside gathering at Kemera Market.
On Tuesday the DP will commission a number of projects in North Mugirango Constituency and later West Mugirango where he will conclude, his tour in Nyamira town.
