The Environment Institute of Kenya held the 7th Annual General Meeting at Panari Hotel to discuss the environmental issues and to highlight interventions that address the ever-emerging issues on May 31, 2022.
The AGM also brings the members together on an annual basis to discuss the strides made by EIK.
This is a legal requirement as per the Societies Act Cap 108.
The environmental and social management experts take note of the contemporary environmental issues ranging from disaster management and response, climate change, waste management, noise and air pollution, circular economy, green economy and blue economy.
"These issues if not well articulated and addressed will have huge and catastrophic universal impact."
EIK is in the process of organizing the EIK National Environmental Conference 2022, the first of its kind in Kenya.
"We call upon all relevant stakeholders to have concerted efforts in highlighting environmental issues and develop effective strategies that can be incorporated into the National and County governments environmental agenda, though policy and Law."
EIK assures their members on the matter of reinstatement of the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit Experts fees, they are presently in consultation with NEMA in order to resolve the issue amicably.
EIK, nonetheless, supports the reinstatement of the 0.1% project fees to comply with the polluter pays principle as enshrined in the sustainable development guidelines (SDGs).
