A section of Thika Highway has been closed at car wash footbridge in Roysambu after a fuel tanker overturned Thursday morning.
Nairobi-bound carriage and its service lane have been temporarily closed.
Police have urged motorists to use alternative routes as the spilt oil has rendered the road slippery and unsafe for use.
Police are cleaning the spillage at the scene while Nairobi-bound vehicles have been directed at Githurai 44.
The resultant traffic snarl up has stretched all the way to All Soaps and Kenyatta University.
The accident has also affected Ruiru Bypass and the connecting road to Kasarani where traffic has build up.
