The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has been tasked with rolling out the plates in compliance with the Traffic Act, 2016.

The new plates contain enhanced security features which are aimed at making forgery or duplication of the plates impossible.

The security features will also allow law enforcement agencies to track vehicles and enable the Kenya Revenue Authority to track tax evaders.

The features include a QR code, NTSA serial number, the Kenyan flag, a hologram and a microchip.

The front and the back plates, which have aesthetically pleasing fonts and designs will be different from each other.

The new plates will be fitted on all imported vehicles at the point of entry, but owners of already registered vehicles will have to apply for the new plates.
