Former Roots party presidential running mate Justina Wamae says her resolve to advocate for marijuana use caused conflict between her and her parents.
She, however, said they had a change of heart after she used the presidential running mate debate to explain her views on the use of the banned narcotic.
"When I went to the debate, I saw 20 million plus Kenyans were watching. It was a good chance to tell them that we are not advocating for cannabis but the cannabis industrial hemp," Justina said.
"It was a good thing that I went to the debate to clear my name," Justina said in an interview with SPM Buzz on Thursday.
"From that, people became positive. Many said, this maize plants are not helping us and does not have money, we can cut them and plant the industrial hemp."
Justina said she would not advocate for something that would destroy people's lives since she also has children and would not want to see them smoke bhang.
"The debate also gave me a platform to tell Kenyans that I'm a mother and would not be happy seeing my children on drugs," she said.
Justina explained that the kind of cannabis they were advocating for was the one that does not have the drug component as its produce is fibre.
"Even my family was convinced and said the idle land we will plant the industrial hemp."
Justina and Roots party leader George Wajackoyah were advocating for marijuana plantation which they said would generate sufficient revenue which would help offset country's debt.
