Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former prime minister Raila Odinga hold talks in Mombasa.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and ODM leader Raila Odinga met on Friday morning at Moi Airport VIP Lounge in Mombasa.

This is the first time the duo is meeting since the elections. Details of their meeting are still scanty.

In a Facebook post, Gachagua revealed the news of their meeting after posting photos of them together.

"We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens. I was delighted this morning to have a tete a tete with our senior citizen former Prime Minister Raila Odinga," he said.

Raila was said to be heading to Machakos for the Azimio Parliamentary Group and Gachagua was heading back to Nairobi after officially opening the Governors' induction workshop.

Raila jetted back to the country on Thursday, after being away for a few days.

He headed straight to Mombasa for a luncheon of Governor Abdulswamad Nassir at Sarova Whitesands.

Raila had taken a vacation with his family to Zanzibar for what he said was to ‘reflect and heal’ after the shocking loss during the August 9 election.

“I have been out of the country; I went to recuperate in the spice Island of Zanzibar. I took my wife, children and grandchildren also to go heal after the shock they got as a family,” he said.

While leaving the country last week, Raila promised to consult his Azimio team on the way forward even as he maintained the outcome of the presidential contest remains ‘indeterminate’.

“I will, jointly with Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders, announce our next steps as we seek to deepen and strengthen our democracy,” Raila said in a statement dated September 12.
