President William Ruto and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday held talks on the fertilizer crisis.

According to a statement by the US State Department spokesperson Ned Price, the two leaders talked on the phone.

They discussed the ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia and the US efforts to address the fertilizer crisis.

During the call, Blinken thanked Ruto for the country's commitment to upholding international law.

"Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Kenya President William Ruto today to express appreciation for Kenya’s support for the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution denouncing Russia’s sham referenda in Ukraine and Kenya’s commitment to upholding international law," the statement read.

A Survey of the Agriculture Sector conducted ahead of the MPC meeting, revealed that issues like transport costs and fertilizer prices are major factors constraining agricultural production.

The respondents also said prices of some food items particularly vegetables have declined due to increased supply with the improved weather conditions and the onset of the harvest season.

They however expect agricultural output to improve in the next harvest season.

The northern part of Ethiopia has been facing a humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing fight between the government and Tigray rebels.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) has been challenging the government since August, after having settled for five months.

The conflict between the two forces has robbed the Ethiopian citizens' of peace for almost two years now.
