Kiambu woman rep Ann Wanjiku Wamuratha during the launch of FAWE-Kenya's strategic plan 2022-2026 at the Sarova Panafric, Nairobi. October 11, 2022.

Kiambu woman representative Ann Wanjiku has called for focused efforts to empower boys in the country.

Wanjiku noted that the boy child has strayed from the good path in society especially in Kimabu county due to neglect.

"There is a huge problem in Kiambu county where we see so many men have fallen into drunkenness and we need to salvage that situation,” she said.

The MP clarified that it is not wrong to empower girls and women because they have been marginalised for a long time.

But she pointed out that it should no longer be considered a gender agenda only if it concerns the welfare of women and girls yet gender incorporates both men, women, girls and boys.

"We need to talk about both the boys and the girls," she said.

Wanjiku was speaking on Tuesday during the Forum for African Women’s Educationalists (FAWE-Kenya)’s strategic plan for 2022 to 2026.

She said boys also need to be considered and added to the conversation.

Wanjiku lauded FAWE-Kenya for striving to add boys in their conversations around advancing girls’ and women Education in their new strategic plan.

Among FAWE-Kenya’s objectives is to also empower boys in their Education alongside girls.

October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child.
