Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo plans to set up an anti-corruption committee to curb graft in the county.
Ottichilo said the unit will work in collaboration with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in reining in on corrupt individuals in his administration.
"If we combat corruption as a government, we are going to save more resources that will help achieve more," he said while noting that corruption has remained a major pandemic in the county.
He said the vice must be slayed for the county to move forward.
Ottichilo spoke when addressing the County Assembly on Wednesday.
He said the assembly should work closely with the new unit in fighting corruption to better the lives of Vihiga people.
Durimg his inauguration, Ottichilo said his administration would not entertain corruption.
"I will form an internal anti-corruption unit that will deal with the vice. I want money for Vihiga people to benefit them in terms of development and service delivery," Ottichilo after taking oath of office on August 25.
Ottichilo said Vihiga county has the potential to develop but corruption has been holding it back.
The governor challenged the County assembly to work with the executive as way of phasing out corruption across board.
He said cordial working relations between the assembly and the Executive will help streamline their activities
"We have created a liaison office in our Executive that will enable the Assembly and the Executive to handle issues properly," Ottichilo said.
The governor urged the assembly to follow the rightful procedure while summoning the executive to get the right response.
"Sometimes, when the executive is called here for questioning, the time frame given is too minimal that they don’t get much time to prepare. I would pray that we work out on time frames," he said.
Ottichilo said when sufficient time is given, the CEC or the Chief Officerwill have ample time to prepare their response.
