Nomination call for The Star '2022 Person Of The Year"

Award recognizes people who have done the most within the year to influence events and lives.

The Star Newspaper is inviting nominations for Kenyans or leaders who have done the most within the year to influence events and lives.

The eventual winner of the prestigious “Star Person of the Year” will be unveiled in December days before Christmas.

You have until November 30 to make your submission.

The Star has been naming a person of the year for the past four years since 2018.

The internal awards committee at the Star has outlined four broad qualities that they would be considered before settling on the eventual winners.

These are:

  • A person who strives to make Kenya or their community a better place to live and work.

  • A person who has greatly inspired or helped fellow citizens.

  • A person who has invented a solution that has dramatically changed lives and;

  • A person with the qualities of honesty and integrity.

The Star Political Editor Felix Olick who chairs the award's committee asked Kenyans to nominate the best.

“We are only weeks away from the end of 2022... The key political actors will have had a preeminent place in our national psyche, but in looking for the person of the year, we hope to we shall cast our eyes beyond politicians and focus our attention on individuals who will have inspired or influenced our lives even though they be ordinary men and women in low stations but with an extraordinary gift to do extraordinary things,” stated Star Associate Editor Joseph Olweny.

The Star News Editor Editor Jillo Kadida said Kenyans helping others in dealing with the biting drought and the tough economic times are heroes.

"There are Kenyans who have despite these difficulties rolled up their sleeves and gone the extra mile to have a positive impact on society. The star person of the year award is aimed at thanking and recognizing such exceptional individuals,” Kadida said.

Last year, Wambui Nyutu who is the Vice Chair of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission was the Star person of the Year.

Previous winners of the award were Senator Okiya Omtata, Justice Mumbi Ngungi and CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge.
