Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Burundi where he is expected to facilitate peace talks to end the conflicts in Eastern Congo.
Uhuru is the East African Community facilitator of the inter -Congolese Consultations and Dialogue on peace restoration.
Uhuru will hold talks with Burundian President General Évariste Ndayishimiye.
Ndayishimiye is the current rotational chairperson of the East African Community, on the DRC peace process.
Uhuru's peace talks trip comes hours after President William Ruto flagged off more than 900 military personnel DRC.
The troops will join a new regional force tasked with trying to calm deadly tensions fuelled by armed groups.
On October 31, Uhuru called on the parties involved in the DRC conflict to "agree to a cessation of hostilities" and engage in peace talks.
Uhuru had further emphasized that there is no military solution to the conflict but that of embracing peaceful talks.
"The EAC calls on the parties to the current skirmishes to immediately halt their offensives, agree to a cessation of hostilities, allow for unhindered and sustained humanitarian access, withdraw and vacate from occupied areas and pursue a negotiated settlement through peace talks," read part of his statement.
