Nandi senator Samson Cherargei says Kenya Kwanza Coalition is intact after MPs defied President William Ruto’s list for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) seats.
Cherargei, who is a key ally of the President, said there were no divisions in the ruling coalition after legislators elected two candidates who did not receive State House backing.
While congratulating all EALA MPs elected, the senator further pointed out that he “did not vote for dynasties.”
“The Party Position of UDA/Kenya Kwanza prevailed in Bunge. Ignore Azimio-OKA propaganda. The UDA/Kenya Kwanza is Intact as orbit sweet,” he said on his social media platforms.
On Thursday, MPs elected former MP Iringo Kubai and Mwangi Maina to the regional parliament though their names were not on the list unveiled by Ruto at a State House meeting with lawmakers a day earlier.
The list had former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former MPs Zipporah Kering (Nandi Woman Representative), David Sankok (Nominated), Falhada Dekow Iman (Nominated Senator) and Fred Muteti.
MPs, however, elected Iringo, Maina, Omar, Kering and Muteti to represent Kenya in EALA.
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition saw former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka elected.
Also elected were businessman Suleiman Shabal and former Kieni MP Kanini Kega.
