Lawyer Nelson Havi lands plum job in Ruto's government

Ex-MP Kones has also been appointed board member Local Authorities Provident Fund.

Lawyer Nelson Havi has landed a plum government job after losing the Westlands parliamentary contest to Tim Wanyonyi.

In a gazette notice seen by the Star, Havi will be the new chairperson of the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), for the next three years.

He was appointed by Treasury and National Planning CS Njuguna Ndung'u.

His appointment is effective from February 10.

"...the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Nelson Havi to be a member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three (3) years," the notice reads.

 

The CS also revoked the appointment of Abdirahin H. Abdi.

Havi is the immediate former president of the Law Society of Kenya.

In the August 2022 general election, he contested the Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance ticket but lost to incumbent Tim Wanyonyi.

Before joining UDA, he had expressed interest in vying for the seat on an ANC ticket.

In another appointment, the Treasury CS appointed former Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones a member of the Local Authorities Provident Fund board.

She will also serve for the next three years.

CS Ndung'u revoked the appointment of Haro Guyo Okola.

"...the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints –Under subsection (a) Beatrice Kones to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Local Authorities Provident Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the10th February, 2023."
