The US Embassy has flagged a public notice letter going around on social media stating that a member of parliament and a cabinet secretary have been banned from travelling to the United States of America.
The fake letter dated December 1, 2024, stated that a travel restriction had been imposed on the two by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The letter was signed by USCIS Director Mendoza Jaddou.
“The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in coordination with the U.S Embassy in Kenya herewith restricts the individuals named from entering The United States of America indefinitely until further consideration and advisory by The U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),” read the fake letter.
The fake document further stated that the cessation of movement of the two named government officials to the US was to be effective as of December 1, 2024, at the stroke of midnight.
The fake letter alleged that the two senior government officials were under investigation for receiving bribes in order to facilitate tenders to an international conglomerate firm.
“The current indefinite entry restrictions into the US denote that there will be a suspension of visa exemption policy and issuance of tourist visa ande-visa” the fake letter further stated.
The Star, however, reached out to the US embassy on Monday during which the letter was flagged as fake.
“The travel ban indicated in the letter is a fake and was not issued by any US government official,” the US Embassy stated.
