United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chair Johnson Muthama has been nominated as a non-MP to the powerful Parliamentary service commission (PSC).
His nomination comes following the conclusion of the interviews conducted last December.
Those who had been shortlisted for the position are former Kisii Governor James Ongwae, former MPs Peter Mwathi (Limuru), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Cornelly Serem (Aldai) and David Were.
Others are former Kwale County Assembly Speaker Sammy Ruwa and Aruma John Ekale.
A total of 171 applicants had shown interest in the position but only eight were shortlisted.
The report from the committee will now be tabled in both the National Assembly and Senate when it resumes its sittings Tuesday.
He is set to replace Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga who resigned last year to defend his seat.
National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula is the chairperson of the commission while nominated senator Joyce Korir is the vice chair. The Clerk of the Senate is the secretary.
Other members are senators Faith Gitau, Mishi Mboko, Mohamed Ali, Okong’o Omogeni, John Kinyua, and Patrick Makau.
The Commission is one of the independent commissions established under Article 127 of the Constitution.
One of its primary functions is to ensure the smooth running of both Houses of Parliament, the Senate and the National Assembly.
