Azimio leader Raila Odinga arrives in Nakuru for his rally on March 16, 2023

Azimio boss Raila Odinga has landed in Nakuru where he will hold a crucial anti-governmental rally in president William Ruto's bastion.

The opposition leader is using the Nakuru rally to test the waters in Ruto's turfs ahead of his grand march to State House on Monday.

"Touchdown in Nakuru Town! We are all set and ready for today's People's Baraza," Raila tweeted on Thursday.

Raila will lead an opposition rally at Mazembe grounds on the outskirts of Nakuru City.

This is Raila's first public meeting in Nakuru since losing to Ruto in last year's presidential election.

In contrast, Raila landed to a low-key reception from ODM grassroots leaders unlike during the campaigns when he was treated to state largesse.

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, who is also the leader of the DAP-K party, is among the Azimio big guns accompanying Raila.

"Nakuru we come in Peace," tweeted Wamalwa after arriving in Nakuru.

Today's Raila's penultimate rally before his planned protests in Nairobi on Monday.

On Friday, Raila will storm Ruto's Kiambu stronghold for another significant rally as he builds momentum for his Monday date with destiny.

The ODM leader made last-minute changes to his itinerary this week to slot in Nakuru and Kiambu in a strategic move to give his anti-Ruto campaigns a national face.

"The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has made changes to the week’s itinerary ahead of Monday 20th March as follows; Thursday 16th March - Nakuru County; Friday 17th March, Kiambu County," Azimio said on Tuesday.
