Why a seafarer disrupted Gachagua's speech in Mombasa

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was on Thursday forced to temporarily stop his speech after he was interrupted.

A man from the crowd interjected him when he was speaking forcing him to halt his address.

The man was heard complaining about shipping companies sidelining the locals in favour of foreigners.

"Tunagadhabika sana mheshimiwa kuona kampuni hapa Kenya  inaajiri Wahindi na Wafilipino. Tunaomba serikali iwatoe. Hatuna Kazi na kazi ambazo sisi tunafanya kulingana na ujuzi wetu zinapewa watu ambao hawana ujuzi," he said.

(We are saddened to see Kenyan companies employing Indians and Filipinos. We want the government to tell them to leave. We do not have jobs and the ones we do that we are skilled at are given to foreigners who do not have those skills).

Gachagua answered him saying the country cannot chase them away because of the bilateral relations between countries.

He said that people will be given a chance depending on their skills and a chance to do the job well.

The DP flagged off 500 Kenyan seafarers who will be joining different shipping lines around the world.

They will be deployed as seafarers, engineers, chefs, waiters, lifeguards and cadets.

The seafarers were trained at Bandari Maritime.

He is accompanied by Blue Economy CS Salim Mvurya, Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Chibule, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali and KMA chair Hamisi Mwaguya
