Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said stalled roads will be revived and completed after the government allocates funds for their construction.
The Deputy President said President William Ruto has stabilised the economy after putting in place key interventions the last two years and finances are now available for ongoing projects across the country.
The DP spoke when he inspected the construction of Endarasha-Charity-Gakanga-Embaringo-Kimunyuru, Mweiga-Amboni-Mbondeni-Ruiru- Karandi, Issac Camp-Mahiga- Sangare, Solio-Kabati-Gitegi, and Honi River-Wendiga Shopping Centre-Mairo Roads, in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.
Construction of these roads had stalled for the last six years due to a lack of funds.
Now, Sh2.3 billion has been set aside by the Kenya Kwanza Administration for completion by August 2026.
"The roads had stalled since 2019 because of financial challenges. It has been 6 years without any construction work going on here.
"Today, I have come here with good news. President Ruto has stabilised the economy, and now we have adequate funds to revive this road and all the stalled roads in Nyeri County and across the country," said Prof. Kindiki.
In total, the government is constructing 12 roads in the county, most of them being revived after they were abandoned because of budgetary constraints.
"We have allocated Sh17 billion for the ongoing construction of 12 roads in Nyeri County. All these roads will be completed because finances have been allocated.
We will monitor closely the progress of construction of the roads, markets, electricity connection projects in the county to ensure faster completion for the people to benefit from them," he added.
On top of roads, the government is also expanding water projects, economic stimulus markets, the last-mile electricity connection, and creation of jobs through Kazi kwa Ground, Kazi Mtandaoni, and Kazi Majuu programs.
"The economy is now flourishing. Now it's time for development and bettering the lives of Kenyans.
We are constructing 400 new markets across the country. I will come to inspect those underway in Nyeri County and when complete, the President will be here to launch them," he indicated.
The Deputy President said the focus on economic growth, solving people's challenges, and improving earnings for millions of Kenyans, adding that it was not time to get immersed in unproductive engagements.
"The President and the government are focused on finding solutions to the problems our people are facing. We don't have any interest in political fights. Our focus is on expansion of our roads, water, electricity, creation of jobs.
It is irresponsible for us to engage in politics now because doing that will make our people suffer and service delivery will be disrupted," he said.
At the same time, the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki switched on the Rural Electrification Project for Aguthi Village in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.
The Last Mile Connectivity Project targets lighting and powering 101 homes in the rural village.
Lydia Wairimu Karoki, 73 and a mother of five children, is one of the beneficiaries. The DP switched on the power to her house in Aguthi village on Friday afternoon.
"I am happy to have been connected to electricity today. I am also to host the Deputy President of the Kenya here at home," said Mrs Karoki, a widow.
In Nyeri County, a total of 10, 903 beneficiaries have benefitted through the last-mile electricity connectivity programme. A total of Sh733 million has been allocated for the expansion of the project.
For Kieni Constituency, Sh164 million has been set aside to connect 1, 163 households.
"We have raised the number of people without electricity from 2.7 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025. There are more areas without connection; that is why we have allocated funds for the connection of 1 million more Kenyans in the next 20 months," said the DP.
