Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Kenyan youths in Kenya to shun graft-related activities.
Speaking during the 1st Graduation Ceremony at Ollessos National Polytechnic in Nandi County, Kindiki said they must always strive to be ethical people.
He insisted that corruption is bad and that it will destroy the country’s future.
The DP encouraged youths not to fall into the traps of 'crooks' pushing them to take shortcuts adding that many people have made it without the shortcuts.
“I know many young people complain about corruption and other things but they themselves are just waiting for an opportunity to be corrupt. We must condemn intergenerational corruption. Corruption by old people is corruption and it is bad, but also future corruption is bad because it will destroy our country tomorrow. Be ethical people.
“Many people will tell you it is still possible to be upright and you go and make it but a few crooked people will tell you that you will have to take shortcuts,” Kindiki said.
He noted that Kenya has great potential and it is banking on the young people to take the country to the next level of prosperity.
The Deputy President said the older generation has worked hard to make life better and they have very limited time.
Kindiki said that as the youths take charge, they must be responsible custodians.
“Our country has potential and we are depending on you to take this country to the next level. The older people, we are on notice, our productive time is limited and this country cannot be sustainable if the young people looking at me today have no future.
“We are working hard to make sure you have a better future but my charge to you is when that future comes, be responsible custodians of the country and its assets so that your children can also have a country to inherit.”
Kindiki, however, added that while youths are more powerful and more knowledgeable due to technology, they must also be open to mentorship.
He insisted that there are things that can only be taught through experience and that is where the older generation will help.
“You are more powerful than us your parents because you have more knowledge because of technology, more exposure but you must allow yourselves to be mentored. There are things only taught in a school called school of life.”
