Deputy President Kithure Kindiki now says that one cannot transform the country by preaching hatred, division, or tribalism among the people.
In remarks directed at detractors of the government, Kindiki said Kenya can only be transformed by converting God-given resources into wealth and distributing it equally among the people.
Speaking on Thursday, Kindiki said the created wealth must be distributed to as many people at the bottom of the chain as possible.
“That is how you transform a country, you don’t transform a country by talking and throwing hate, division and tribalism. You develop a country by saying how can we convert resources God has given us in different parts of the country into wealth and distribute it to as many people as possible,” he said during a meeting with leaders from Isiolo County.
His remarks come a day after he scoffed at political rivals over the one-term presidency notion, brushing it off as an unrealistic and inconsequential threat.
Kindiki wondered why making Ruto a one-term president could excite some leaders when he has already achieved a lot, even by just being head of state.
“I saw some guys saying how their singular motivation is to make William Ruto a one-term President. Really? And then? How can that be your motivation as a leader?” he posed.
His statement was in direct response to his predecessor and impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who spoke Monday during the launch of DAP-K headquarters.
He pledged to work with all Kenyans to challenge Ruto’s administration and make any chance of his re-election in the 2027 general election unlikely.
"We shall be selfless as a team and let us not approach these elections with a predetermined mindset that it has to be my way. We need to sit down and do proper arithmetic so that we do not fight each other.
“This journey is not for the faint-hearted, we do not have money to buy fear but with the great leaders, we will work together and unveil a national movement,” Gachagua said.
The Deputy President added that Ruto is among the only five Kenyans who have been privileged to occupy the highest office in the land, when many leaders have tried in vain to be the president.
He said even if he does not get a second term, he will have transformed lives in the country.
