Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has scoffed at their political rivals over the one-term presidency notion brushing it off as unrealistic and inconsequential.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with leaders from Tharaka Nithi, Kindiki wondered why making Ruto a one-term president could excite some leaders when he has already achieved a lot.

“I saw some guys saying how their singular motivation is to make William Ruto a one-term President. Really? And then? How can that be your motivation as a leader?” he posed.

His statement was in direct response to his predecessor and impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who spoke Monday during the launch of DAP-K headquarters.

He pledged to work with all Kenyans to challenge Ruto’s administration and make any chance of his re-election in the 2027 general election unlikely.

"We shall be selfless as a team and let us not approach these elections with a predetermined mindset that it has to be my way. We need to sit down and do proper arithmetic so that we do not fight each other. This journey is not for the faint-hearted, we do not have money to buy fear but with the great leaders, we will work together and unveil a national movement,” he affirmed.

According to the Kindiki, President Ruto is among the five Kenyans who have been privileged to occupy the highest office in the land.

He said many leaders have tried in vain to be the president.

He said even if he does not get a second term, he will have transformed lives in the country.

“We will have transformed the lives of our people in health, economy, education, housing and job creation for our young people, he will have achieved his mission,” he asserted.

“Don't threaten us with a one-term presidency. That is cheap.”

Gachagua who was joined by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa among others urged Kenyans to stand up against Ruto accusing him of being “intolerant” and “dictatorial”.

Gachagua protested against some of the policies the President wanted to implement such as unpopular tax hikes which eventually sparked deadly nationwide street protests.

"The government he leads is a one-man show; he wants his way and all those ministers you see there are flower girls. I was the only one who could stand up to him and say, hey boss, this can’t work,” he said.

In a past event, Ruto told off the opposition leaders over 2027 saying this is the time for development and that "when the time comes, he will battle it out with them."
