Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared Shakahola Forest a crime scene.
This is after police exhumed some 47 bodies linked to the church of controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie.
The preacher has been on the spot over cult-like teachings that led to the death of some of his followers.
In a statement, Kindiki said the government has reinforced security in the area.
"I have directed the Regional Commissioner for Coast Region together with the Regional Security Team to reinforce the team in Malindi ahead of my visit on Tuesday. Enough security officers have been deployed and the entire 800-acre forest is sealed off and declared a scene of the crime," he said.
The CS also called for the regulation of churches as investigations into the deaths intensify.
The controversial preacher was arrested on April 15 after discovering the bodies of four people suspected of having starved themselves to death.
He has denied wrongdoing but has been denied bail. He insists that he shut down his church in 2019.
On Monday, President William Ruto said Mackenzie is a criminal and belongs in jail.
"What we are seeing in Kilifi, Shakahola is a kin to terrorism. There is no difference between Mr Mackenzie who pretends and postures as a pastor when in fact he is a terrible criminal," he said
"Terrorists use religion to advance their heinous acts. People like Mackenzie are using religion to do the same thing... Let me say for the avoidance of doubt that people like Mackenzie and all other terrorists and criminals do not belong to any religion, they belong to jail and that is where they should be."
Ruto said people who are masquerading as religious people yet what they do is contrary to the teachings and to the beliefs or religion will face the law.
He added that he has instructed the agencies to take up the matter and to get to the root cause of activities of religious.
